January 26
Today we moved further to the NW in the atoll to an islet called Tar
which is uninhabited except for 3 or 4 people who are at a temporary
copra camp. This is a place where they cut and dry coconuts for copra
for a few months then move back to the place they normally live, which
in this case is called Tjan (pronounced Chien) a bit more to the
North.
We sailed here today from Ollot, a distance of about 7 miles and it
was lovely. We had a brisk 18-20k wind, but being right behind the
coral reef the lagoon was flat calm. We unrolled the genoa only and
were making 6.5 - 7.5k easily and the sun was shining and the sky
clear. We plan to stay here a few days before moving down to the
Southern end of the atoll to a place called Airik.
