February 22This morning we finally left Pohnpei, this time for good. We raised the hook at 8:15am and motored over to the commercial dock where we tied up to take on diesel and clear customs and immigration. Of course, nothing goes as fast as you’d like in a place like this, so we didn’t actually leave the dock till about 11:15am. We motored out of the pass into the sea and headed West along the top end of Pohnpei then down the West coast between Pohnpei and Ant Atoll where we stopped briefly last month. By 3pm we had passed Ant, but not before landing a nice Mahi mahi. At 4pm we raised the spinnaker and sailed SSW on a course of 205M to pass to the East of Nagtik Atoll about 65 miles South of Pohnpei. The swell is running about 4-6ft from the NE and the sea is generally calm. During the night, the wind was tending more the North, making it harder and harder to keep the sail drawing. We expect to pass Nagtik at around 2am and after that we will have to alter course to the West. We are not thrilled with this as it almost surely means having to motor downwind. |
