May 15

We raised our anchor at about 5:30pm and headed North out of the bay leaving Kavieng behind. The weather was calm with about 60% cloud cover. Wind was about 4k from the South, but dropped to nil as we left the harbor. Our goal is the Tabar Islands which lie about 72nm East of Kavieng and 20 miles North of the coast of New Ireland. We expect to motor there making about 5k over ground so as to arrive at about 9am tomorrow morning, a total of about 15.5 hours.

It is now 10:30pm and conditions remain calm with the wind varying from about 2k to 6k from the East. We are motoring at about 4.8-5k on a course of 100M (107True). Skies are cloudy with fog and cover about 80% of the sky judging by the number of stars visible. We have a quarter moon which will be setting before midnight. We have 51 miles to go to reach Tabar.
