The night passed easily with conditions remaining calm. Winds held in the 5-8k range and seas remain calm. By 3am a swell from the East became noticeable and by 6am it was 3ft but gentle and steady from the SE.

At 7am the wind remains light at about 6k. Skies are mostly clear with some small squalls visible on the horizon but which appear to be burning off in the early morning sun. We have about 13nm remaining to reach Ambittle Island. We do not have accurate charts of the Feni Islands and are working with two sketch charts from two different guide books, both of which are less then exacting in detail. The CMap electronic chart for this area is vague and shows only enough detail to get us in the general vicinity of the anchorage. It may take us a while to hunt around before we find the right spot which is reported to be just inside a small off lying island called St. John’s (in this case by small I mean less then a ¼ mile across). Our estimated time of arrival is 9:30am.

We anchored at 10am sharp in 22ft of water between St. John’s Island and the main island of Ambittle. It looks very shallow and we need to survey the area as there is not much swinging room.

After resting for an hour or two the wind shifted to the East and the boat swung West whereupon we noticed a grinding noise. We rushed on deck and found we had swung over a coral head that was about 6ft from the surface and our rudder was swinging back and forth. Not good. We quickly raised the anchor and motored to a different spot further to the East where the gap between St. John’s and the main island widens. We should have anchored there in the first place but we were tired and lazy. We anchored again in 58-60ft of water in good sand holding with plenty of swinging room.
