August 5

We left Musket Cove this morning at about 10am and motored to Vunda Pt. Marina. The wind was almost dead at about 3-5k and the sun was shining brightly. We arrived at about 1pm and moored next to our old friend Darwin on "Dragon Lady". Nothing broke, however, while entering the marina I smelled burning rubber and so did Kate. She opened the hatch to the fuel locker and I saw black smoke coming out - black rubber smoke. No idea yet what it was. It was gone within 2 minutes and the smell faded fast. Will have to check everything but I fear it is something which will only be observed while the engine is very hot. Any way, the engine ran perfectly, the transmission ran smoothly and the shaft seems to be turning cleanly, though it is hard for me to judge.
