August 7This morning we weighed anchor again and moved around to the other side of Taha'a. The island is surrounded with a fringing reef so a boat can completely circumnavigate Taha'a without leaving the comfort of the lagoon. We left at about 9am and motored around the Southern end of the island then back North along the Western side till we came to Paipai Pass. We tried to anchor just inside the pass on a shallow patch of 30ft but we could not get a good position where we would not swing onto the shallow sand behind us. We decided to skip the diving and headed further North along the Western side until we came to a pair of motus at the NW corner of the island and we anchored about 1/2 mile South of it on the edge of the shallows in only 8-10ft of water. It is very calm here and quiet and we have an awesome view of BoraBora in the background (about 20 miles away). |
