September 8

We upped anchor and left Kuatu at 9am and are now heading North along the East side of Waya Island. Once we reach the top of Waya we turn NW. After 15 miles or so we will pass Viwa, the Western most of the Fiji islands in the Yasawa Group. Then we turn to port for a heading of WNW for the big leg of 570nm to Vanuatu. Right now we have about 10k of wind from the East but forecasts are calling for winds to die down after Monday (tomorrow) so perhaps we have 2 good days of (light wind) sailing after which we will most likely motor for the final 2 days. The sky is partly cloudy and the sun is shining brightly.

At 1pm we came up on and then passed by Viwa Island, it was quite low but well wooded and we saw some boats on the horizon to the SW which were perhaps fishing boats from Viwa. It is now 2pm and we just hoisted the spinnaker though we are still only making 4.5-5k over ground in this light air. We have about 8k from the East, though sometimes it comes around to the ENE a bit, which we like. SSE would be best, but it does not look like we will get that.
