February 12

We hauled in the anchor this morning at 6:15am and headed out of Manzanillo bay bound for Zihautenajo. The wind was from the West at 8k but we motored out of the harbor because of the possibility of traffic in the dark. When we cleared the bay and the sun began to rise the wind also died.

We are now motoring ESE at 6k over ground in sunny skies with about 4-6k wind, still from the West. At one point when the wind built to 10k we raised the mainsail and it is still up and only slatting about a little. The sea temperature is up to 80f now and the water is blue and clear under our keel. The main swell is from the West at about 5ft and are nice and smooth. There are two other boats which left Manzanillo at about the same time as us - Pipe Dream and another boat whose name I cannot spell but which sounds like "Inadara". We expect the wind to build in by nightfall and hope to arrive in Zihautenajo around noon tomorrow.

At 1:45pm we finally had enough wind to sail without the motor. We are making about 5k over ground in 9k True wind from the West.
