February 22
We departed Isla Grande this afternoon at 4pm sharp bound for Acapulco.
There is no wind of course so we are motoring SE at appx. 7k making
1850rpm with a SW swell of about 2ft. The sun is shinning and the air is
very very hot. The water temperature is a scalding 84.7f. We expect to
arrive in Acapulco tomorrow at around noon.
At 11pm we continue to motor at appx. 7k on a heading of 102M and are
about72nm away from our goal. The seas are dead calm with the swell
running less then 1ft and absolutely no wind at all. The sky is filled
with stars and there is no moon visible. We have seen several ships both
visible and on radar, none less then 6 miles off.
The time is now 4:45am and we are about 4 hours out of Acapulco. Some
cloud cover has developed and the wind has increased to about 8k from the
North. We have been motorsailing since midnight making between 7k and 8k
over ground on a heading of 102M. We have just changed course to 92M as we
begin to close the coast. Water temperature has decreased to about 82.7f
and I continue to be amazed at both the high temperature of the waters
here and the fluctuations as we travel further South and East. Our current
estimated arrival time at the entrance to Boca Chica - the channel leading
into Bahia Acapulco from the NW - is 9:30am.
We arrived at Acapulco as predicted at precisely 9:30am and tied up at the
fuel dock at the Acapulco Club de Yates (Acapulco Yacht Club). We topped
off our tanks and got an assignment from the dockmaster. As are all the
tie ups here ours was a med-moor (ie. stern to the pier). It was an
interesting experience as we have never tied up stern-to before. But after
some manauvering we managed it quite well. By 11:30am we were secured .
