Queen Jane - Shannon 50 Ketch built in 1983 by Shannon Yachts, Bristol RI; Designed by Walt Schultz
The
Queen Jane is Shannon 50 hull number 15 and was originally constructed during
the year 1983. She was christened the BRAVA and served for 15 years as a
captained charter in the British and US Virgin Islands as well as in the New
England area (Rhode Island). She was purchased by Kate and Jordan Bigel in the
fall of 1998 and shipped to Seattle, Washington where an extensive refit and
rebuild was undertaken at YachtFish Marine on Lake Union.

While in New Zealand in 2001 the Queen Jane had an unfortunate collision with a container vessel and required major repairs. Her bowsprit was sheared clean off and part of the bow and deck had to be rebuilt. Below are photos showing the repair underway as well as the re-re-launching of the Queen Jane.

About the Name
The Queen Jane is named after a Bob Dylan song which appeared on the album "Highway 61 Revisited" which was released in 1965. The full name of the song is "Queen Jane (Approximately)". You can listen to a verse of the song using the RealPlayer or read the lyrics. The song was also part of the repertoire of the Grateful Dead and was played in concert by them regularly. Failures and Repairs
This section is an experimental segment on boat maintenance and repair. A proper log was not kept aboard the Queen Jane as it might have been. Instead, below, I have tried to list from memory each system which has undergone unplanned matinenance or modifications (to solve some unanticipated problem perhaps) what was done and why. The idea is to give people some idea of what kind of things can come up that are very hard to plan for.
Items are freeform and are in roughly chronological order.
