October 7
Today we arrived in
Fiji
at
Vanua Levu
. We had a great sail here, the wind was around 15 to 20 and we set all our
sails on a easy beam reach. The wind died on approach to
Fiji
and so we motor sailed the last 8 hours. We did have a bit of excitement the
day before with an electrical fire, I don’t know why it happened but the
Captain is on the case. Luckily the space in which the fire started is rather
short of oxygen so it stayed very small.
We are anchored off the Costeau Dive Resort
owned by Jean Micheal Cousteau – the great Jacque Cousteau’s son. We went to
talk to the dive people about diving, they have fast boats so we can go places
we normally couldn’t reach by dinghy. We
met a Aussie family staying at the hotel – they have 3 kids, ages 4 to 7. We
chatted and then spent the afternoon in the pool as “guests” of this family.
Excellent! I ordered Tequila Sunrises and we spent a lovely afternoon.
Today
is Sunday so we can not check in and tomorrow is a holiday so I think we will
move down to the town for Tuesday to check in. Its only 2 miles away. We might
move the boat back here as we are going to out on a two tank dive on Wens with
the dive folks here. Its around 15 miles out – the kind of dive that would be
difficult for us to do without moving the boat etc.
