March 15

Today we left San Diego for Los Angeles (Marina del Rey) at about 2:45pm. The weather is clear and cool with the temp about 55F. Winds are 10-15k from the NW and are forecast to ease overnight to less then 10k. The distance to LA is about 106nm and we expect to arrive tomorrow at about noon.

Seas off Pt. Loma are rough and sloppy though the wind is already diminishing and is at 10-12k from the NW. We passed right through a huge kelp bed just off the point – perhaps we cut it a bit close – and we had some tense moments where we worried it might foul or prop of rudder.

By 8pm the wind has further diminished to 8-10k though we are making slow headway against a sloppy swell from the West. Our speed varies between 4.5 and 5.5k averaging about 5k over ground. It is very cold.
