June 5

We awoke well rested at about 6am and by 6:30 we were raising the mainsail (at anchor) and pulling up the hook. With the help of our friend Cerilly we motored out of the bay, past the Hawaii Five-O style breakers on each side and into the Pacific. Once we were clear of the land and reef the wind immediately picked up to 20k and we had a ver fast sail after that. With the main, mizzen and genoa up we were doing 8.5 -9k the entire way.

When we were about 3 hours from Lautoka we phoned the Vunda Pt. Marina to arrange for help getting into the harbor. Luckily, a friend we know from last year was here at the marina and I had them go get him. He organized 2 other dinghies as well as his own. The three met us just outside the channel leading into the marina and quickly tied up one on each side of us and the third roving to push our bow as needed. The timing was close but just as they were tied I managed to go right past the entrance. Fortunately we had enough way on to maneuver and soon we were gliding into the channel.

We tied up to a mooring buoy in the center of a circle of moored boats all tied stern to a circular wall. We went to work immediately lining up our ducks. First the marina office and an appointment to haul out for tomorrow. Then a place called Pacific Marine. They act as jobbers and arrange sub-contractors to do various jobs. They arranged for a mechanic named Sam - whom I have been told by several people already is top shelf - and offered us the use of their freezer to store our meat in (once our boat is out of the water the freezer has to be shut down since it is water cooled. No water, no freezer).

Of course, once we are out of the water we have no use of toilets, showers, sinks and especially the toilet! For this reason our next stop was the First Landing Resort just next door to the marina. We rented a room starting tomorrow where we will stay while the boat is out of the water. That's it for now, we'll have more soon.
