July 14

This morning I completed the generator end installation and we packed up the cockpit lockers and made the vessel ready for sea. The generator still does not work properly, but I will cover that tomorrow or the next day after I have had some time to think about it. By 11:30am we were pulling up the anchor and heading out the Taapuna Pass just South of our anchorage and on our way to Moorea. The wind was blowing only about 5-6k of course (there's never any wind when we want to sail) so we motorsailed the 11nm across the channel separating Tahiti from Moorea. The pass was a panic. Surfers on either side of us riding the massive tubes and us in the middle with shoals on each side. Definitely an adrenalin rush!

The skies were cloudy with about 70% cover making for a nice cool day. We reached Cook's Bay on the North side of Moorea at about 2pm and poked around looking for the Sheraton Moorea Lagoon, but it was not there! The hotel we were seeking is in fact between Cook's Bay and Oponohu Bay 2 miles to the West. We tried to feel our way in through the lagoon to where the hotel was but the channel was too narrow so we went back out the pass and around to Oponohu Bay and then went into the lagoon from that bay and got fairly close to the hotel. It is now 3:45pm local time and we have finally anchored in about 12ft of crystal clear water. There are about 10 other boats here, all behind us further from the hotel.
