July 16
We raised the anchor at 6:20am and motored South out of Havannah
Harbor in a steady rain. Visibility is less then one mile but the wind
is calm, about 5k from the West (perfect for getting to Vila) and the
sea should be also. We are heading back to Port Vila this morning
which is about 20nm from where we were anchored. We should be in Vila
by 10am.
Its is now 8:45am and we are about 5nm from the entrance to Vila Bay.
The rain has lightened a bit though we still have 100% cloud cover.
Seas were very lumpy coming around the Devil's Point (the English name
for Maoto Tiupeniu Point) but the swell is more regular now and is
beginning to diminish as we get further into Mele Bay (the outer bay
within which Vila Bay lies).
At 10am we are anchored in Port Vila in about 40ft of water. The
anchorage seems less crowded then last week though many more boats
seem to be on the permanent moorings which are for rent further into
the bay. This could be due to the high winds we experienced the last
few days.
