July 23

We began preparations to get underway in the afternoon while Jonah was napping and by 3pm we were ready to go. We don't want to arrive too early at our destination so we waited around till 4:30pm and then raised anchor and steamed out the pass and headed NW on a course of 292m for Huahine.

The wind was very light at 9-11k from the NE with a 3-4ft swell from the same direction. We hoisted all sail - mizzen included, and motorsailed for two hours to put some distance between us and the 2 or 3 other boats who had left around the same time, all heading for Huahine. We motorsailed with the engine running at about 1400rpm and made 6.5k over ground. At 6:30pm the wind picked up a small tad and we shut down the motor and are making about 5k over ground. By 7pm we were motorsailing again in about 8-10k wind from the ESE. At 8:30pm we are still motorsailing and the wind is even lighter, as low as 7k at times. Ho hum.
