December 26
We
left Garry’s
Anchorage
this morning at about 8am heading for
Pelican
Bay
, just inside the Southern entrance to the
Great
Sandy
Straits
called the Wide Bay Bar. Skies are mostly cloudy with about 80% cloud cover
though no rain seems imminent. We left just after high tide and the ebb flow
is pushing us along at over 8k even though there is less then 5k of wind
which is from the SE, our direction of travel. We passed through the
shallowest and most narrow spot leading out into the Southern reaches of the
Strait at about 9am – from here it is wide open and 40-40ft deep. The
shallowest spot was about 13ft.
We
anchored just outside
Pelican
Bay
(which can only be entered at high tide by shoal draft vessels) in 9ft of
water at low tide. Wind is up to about 10-15k from the NE and we are very
comfortable. We plan to leave tomorrow morning at first light for
Mooloolaba.
