August 31

Our third day at sea started about the same as the second. Kate took the watch while I slept from 6 to 9am. Jonah is doing great. We are havign trouble with light wind. We tried to raise the spinnaker but it jammed in the sock about 3/4ths of the way open. I tried to sail it that way for a while (like a reefed spinnaker) but it didn't look good for the sail so I wrestled it back into the bag. I'll have to figure out why it jammed soon.

We are motoring for a while during light wind (under 10k) and making good progress South. We are turning 2000 rpm (under our max cruising speed for fuel conservation) and making about 6.6k and about 8k over ground (we are motoring dead downwind and the swell is pushing us along). Kate is at the helm trying to fight back a reoccurance of seasickness she is doing great!

Hoping for more wind at sunset like the last two nights, then we can make better way under sail. Last night by 10pm we had 18-22k and were making 7-8k. In gusts up to 25k we were doing 8.5k.

Time is now 7:45pm local. We are sailing appx. 110 degrees off the wind making 6.5k in 15.5k True wind and heading 180M. We expect winds to build overnight as yesterday!
